George Gillespie was born in Belfast and was the son of a baker. He attended evening classes at Belfast College of Art, whilst following in the bread serving tradition of his father. However in 1977, he relinquished this career as a bread server to become a full time professional artist. Regarded as one of the finest and most collectable landscape artists in the country,
Gillespie’s first love was painting his beloved Donegal, followed by the landscapes of Connemara and the West Coast.
He died on August 20th 1995 and his work is in increasing demand since his death.
